St.
Dominic's Parish Health Ministry
MISSION STATEMENT
The Health Ministry
is a team of Christians dedicated to empowering
individuals to improve mind, body, spirit
health. We make a difference in the lives
of those we serve in the following ways:
-
Role-modeling and
practicing healthy lifestyles
-
Being community by
loving and accepting the Body of Christ
through prayer, support, and ministering
to one another
-
Assisting persons
to move toward their health potential,
not by doing for them, but by helping
them to do for themselves
-
Acting as a resource
for whole person health, wellness
and overcoming illness.
In conclusion,
we act as a presence to provide hope and
to facilitate healing during difficult
times. Therefore, we endeavor to achieve
shalom.
"For
I know well the plans I have in mind for
you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare,
not for woe! plans to give you a future
full of hope. When you call me, when you
go to pray to me, I will listen to you.
When you look for me, you will find me.
Yes, when you seek me with all your heart,
you will find me with you, says the Lord,
and I will change your lot." (Jeremiah

Holy
Name Society
Purpose:
The Society of the Holy Name is a confraternity.
"The primary object of the society
is to beget due love and reverence for
the Holy Name of God and the Holy Name
of Jesus Christ. The secondary object
is to suppress blasphemy, perjury, oaths
of any character that are forbidden, profanity,
unlawful swearing, improper language,
and as far as the members can, to prevent
those vices in others." (Pius IV,
13 April 1564)
History: The Holy Name Society had its
origin in the Council of Lyons, in 1274,
which prescribed that the faithful should
have a special devotion to the Holy Name
of Jesus and that reparation might be
made for insults offered to it by the
Albigensian heresies and other blasphemies.
The Friars Preachers, i.e., the Dominicans,
were preaching everywhere with the zeal
of St. Dominic. It was natural then, that
Pope Gregory X selected the Dominicans
to preach the devotion through the efforts
of Blessed John of Vercelli, the master
general of the order in 1274.
